· Separation
There is an immeasurable gap separating man and God.
Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that you will not hear. ( Isaiah 59:1,2 )
· Sin
The cause of this eternal separation between God and man is sin.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. ( Romans 3:23 )
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ( Romans 6:23 )
· Sacrifice
The justice of God demands a sacrifice for man's sin.
But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. ( Hebrews 9:26 )
· Substitution
Jesus paid the penalty for our sin.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that him we might become the righteousness of God. ( 2 Cor. 5:21 )
· Salvation
We are saved by God's grace when we turn from sin and put our trust in Christ alone for salvation.
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
( Romans 10:9,10 )
